When Ikebana Meets Makeup

Inspirations from the ikebana Japanese floral arts to makeup and styling:

1. Lines

Ikebana uses precision of lines to express beauty, just like eye-lining makeup. Gradation of thickness, curvature.

2. Color Combo

Ikebana uses flowers in similar colors to harmonise or contrasting colors to add pop, just like how we design for makeup or outfit styling.

3. Poetic Pause

Ikebana stresses the importance of space between flower arrangement (留白)to allow imagination, which leads to meditating calmness and minimalism beauty. It applies the same to your choice of makeup focal points, or the balance of your outfit/accessories.

4. Respect of Nature

Ikebana talks about cherishing nature and seeing unique beauty in flowers even they’re wilting or dry branches. It leads to my views on embracing one’s unique beauty at different stages of life, and pursuing nontoxic clean ingredients cosmetics.

How do you use these inspirations to your makeup and styling?

Thank to Mabel Chow for bringing Ikebana flower arts to our new budding SEASONING community in London. Mabel is our Seasoning past bride/alumna who’s an ex-architect turned into Ikebana teacher in Singapore.
